Sample Isolation and Preparation

Bullet BlanderBullet Blander – Next Advance capable to homogenize, disrupt, or lyse up to 24 tissue or cell culture samples at a time.
 PCRPCR Farm – comprised of 30 SimpliAmp™ Thermal Cycler (Fisher Scientific, Applied Biosystem® instruments) with 96-well cyclinVeriFlex™ blocks that provide 3 independent temperature zones.
 CovarisCovaris E220 – focused-ultrasonicator (500KHz) capable of processing 96 samples in a single batch.

Automation – Liquid Handling

BravoBravo – Complete Agilent liquid handling solution equipped with high-accuracy pipette heads for 96-well microplates capable of processing 8 x 96 samples that is integrated with PlateLoc Thermal Microplate Sealer with VWorks automation control software for driving the integration.

Quality Control

 TapeStationTapeStation – Agilent 4200 TapeStation system standard for quality control within any Next Generation Sequencing workflows.
 FluorometerSpectrophotometer/Fluorometer – DeNovix Inc. DS-11 FX+ Spectrophotometer / Fluorometer integrates fluorescence analysis and UV-Vis in the same unit that is coupled with DNA and RNA Fluorescence Assays.
 qPCRReal-Time PCR – QuantStudio 5 Real-Time PCR System, Thermo Fisher Scientific, with 96-well thermal blocks with either 0.1 or 0.2 mL well volume.

Sequencers

Illumina NovaSeq 6000NovaSeq 6000 – Illumina NovaSeq 6000 is the newest two color high-throughput sequencer capable of generating up to 6Tb of data with total of 20 billion reads on a single 2-flowcell run in 48 hours.
Illumina MiSeqMiSeq – Illumina MiSeq benchtop sequencer is optimized for speed and ease of use. It utilizes a single flowcell with single lane with maximum capacity of 25M reads and 15Gb of data per flowcell and up to 39 hours of run time on a 300 pair-end flowcell. It utilizes MiSeq Reporter as the analysis tool.

Computational Resources

High Performance ComputingHigh Performance Computing – Processing: 720 2.4GHz Intel processors each with 64GB of memory and 2TB internal drive mounted on 36 nodes housed in USC’s HPC cluster and accessed via a private departmental queue. Scheduling: Private departmental queue. Storage: 7 x Dell PowerVault MD1200 with 2 x management modules, 1 x 6Gb 1m SAS cable, mounting rails, two power supplies, 12 x 10TB 7.2K NLSAS 12Gbps 3.5 drives.
